PUMPKINS, PUMPKINS, IN THE PATCH...FOR BURTON!

Tuesday we carved over 150 pumpkins for a contest at Burton Snowboards!  Now wait...don't panic...we didn't carve all of them ourselves...I am crazy, but not that crazy!  Anyway, with the help of many parent volunteers, big buddies from third grade, the second graders and six graders, we were able to carve 150 awesome pumpkins!  The kids don't know it yet, but they are getting a surprise gift from Burton Snowboards!  Wait until you see what they get! 

UNFORTUNATELY, I lost the carving pictures somewhere on my computer, or they were deleted on my camera!  Well, at least you can see the one of the pumpkins lining out hallway waiting for Burton!

I absolutely LOVE Halloween!  I always have.  Maybe it's the pretending to be someone/something you are not?  Maybe it's the pumpkin carving and decorating?  OR maybe it's just the candy!  Anyway, our room is decorated and stations are set up for creating spook-ta-cular crafts.  We have a skeleton station where students have to follow directions and put the skeleton bones together.  We have a creation station set up where students can use Halloween stamps or trace different shapes.  And of course we have many songs and books to use through the week.  Happy early Halloween!

 The other day during free time, one of my students came up to me to show me a picture she had drawn of Danny MacAskill, Daniel Dhers, and Martin Soderstrom (rider buddies of Danny's).  It was so cute!  She had thought of it all on her own and even asked me to help her "label" it (a part of our Writer's Workshop).  Once the gang saw her drawing, they decided to make their own pictures of Danny and his friends.  Loved them all!  What an inspiration Danny has been to us!  Check out this link to the video of Danny, Martin, and Daniel!

 So proud of her for labeling the guys names on these pictures!  She created cute pictures and is applying what she is learning in Writer's Workshop!

DYING TO TIE-DYE!

 Our stack of tie-dyed t-shirts!  The group loved wearing them for rainbow day!  Didn't they do a great job?  I made it away from this project with only a bit of a tie-dyed dress, neck, and right leg.  Not bad for a day's work.  But seriously, who's idea was this anyway?  Oh...right...mine!

 The hardest part was wrapping the rubber bands.

HEY, HEY, HEY...IT'S BLUE DAY! RAINBOW JELLO DAY TOO!!

Wow! We can really pull off the color blue!  Not only did we watch the Blue Man Group perform, wear our blue clothes, and watch Elvis perform Blue Suede Shoes, but we also got to eat our rainbow jello!  See below for photos of our jello.  Here is a link to Blue Suede Shoes because the kids really loved it.  I think this little one below is sad because her jello is almost gone.
