Kerpoof? Skype? What am I talking about? Well, here's the scoop. After attending the technology conference two weeks ago, I came back full of fun and educational ideas (technologically speaking) to incorporate into our lessons! Kerpoof is just one website that can help enhance learning. It's a cool site that allows students to create their own "Avitars" (cartoon character to represent themselves) and use them in their learning. This site also allows students to create their own cartoon movies, books, and more. We will use this site when bringing to life stories the students write. We also tried to Skype our pen pals from Brewster Pierce Memorial School in Huntington on Friday. Unfortunately their internet was having problems so we only talked with them for one minute or so. We will be skyping them again soon. The cool thing is we still can send "snail mail" and receive it as well.
We had a fun time celebrating the 100th day of school last week. The students brought in cool 100 collections and we drew what we would look like if we were 100 years old. Some kids told me they would, "just sit around and play cards". Others said they would "have lots of wrinkles and glasses".
The 100th day challenge was to work in a group of 6 students and use 100 pattern blocks to come up with a design. Easy enough, right? Not so much. You gotta love Kindergartners, but listening to each others ideas can be very tricky at this age. I have to say I was impressed that they were able to complete the task. With a little adult intervention and some turn taking, our masterpieces were finished. Way to go!
